The predecessor of the college of Marxism can be traced back to the Political Department of the Theoretical Training Office of the Headquarters during the period of the 14th Aviation School of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, the founding stage of the university. It has gone through several developmental phases including the Political Teaching and Research Section of the Political Department, the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Section of the Theoretical Education Office, and the Department of Social Sciences, and was officially established as an independent school in October 2019. As the primary position and main channel for ideological and political education of the whole university, the college undertakes the core tasks of teaching ideological and political theory courses for all students and cultivating professionalsin ideological and political education. Upholding the mission of "fostering virtue through education", the college has established the educational approach of "guiding ideology, nurturing professional skills and setting the right course", and practiced the teaching spirit of "rigorous scholarship and teaching by precept and example". It integrates the concepts of "civil aviation serving the people" and "revering life, rules and responsibilities", and the contemporary civil aviation spirit, into the entire process of education and teaching, laying a solid ideological foundation for cultivating outstanding builders and reliable successors needed for the development of the civil aviation industry and the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The college currently has a faculty of more than 70 full-time staff, with an additional 30-plus part-time teachers from Party and government departments, fully meeting the teaching needs. Centering on the growth and development of students and the development demands of the civil aviation industry, the college has developed an innovative reform model for ideological and political theory courses featuring the "synergistic drive of teaching, learning, research and management" and a practical teaching model of LBD (Learning By Doing). It has built distinctive advantages in such fields as ideological and political education, the contemporary civil aviation spirit and culture, the history of China's aviation and civil aviation development, and civil aviation law, and set up the "Institute of Civil Aviation Law" and the "Institute of Civil Aviation Culture Development and Communication", yielding a series of distinctive achievements. The college has developed 2 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, 2 provincial-level demonstration courses of ideological and political theory courses and a number of university-level first-class undergraduate courses, laying a solid foundation for discipline construction and talent cultivation.
