Established in March 2005, theCollege of Foreign Languages offers undergraduate programs in English and Translation and provides English instruction to students across 37 undergraduate majors at the university, including both domestic and international students. Thecollege also delivers general English courses for postgraduate students. It is recognized for its strong faculty team in civil aviation English, including more than 20 certified interlocutors and raters for the Civil Aviation English Language Proficiency Test for pilots and air traffic controllers. Through close collaboration with other departments across the university, the college supports the cultivation of aviation professionals with bilingual competence and a global outlook, in line with international civil aviation standards.
With a clear focus on serving national strategies, the development of the civil aviation sector, and regional economic and social needs, College of Foreign Languages has established a distinctive "English + Aviation" educational model. It currently offers two undergraduate degrees - English and Translation - and a Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) program, providing a coherent pathway from undergraduate to postgraduate education. The college enrolls more than 600 full-time students, including over 90 postgraduate students.
The College hosts several university-level research platforms, including the Civil Aviation Translation Research Institute, the Research Center for Large Language Models and Multilingual Aviation Services, the Lancang-Mekong Aviation Development Research Center, and the Research Center for Global Governance of International Civil Aviation Organizations. It also hosts the Research Base for the Translation and International Communication of Sanxingdui Culture, a municipal-level research platform. It maintains close partnerships with the Sanxingdui Museum, leading language service providers, civil aviation enterprises, and local secondary schools, supporting applied education, collaborative research, and industry engagement. Through these partnerships, it has established multiple translation talent incubation bases and internship and practice teaching platforms. In 2025, it was elected Vice Chair Unit of the Transportation Translation Committee of the Translators Association of China.
In recent years, College has made significant advances in undergraduate foreign language education, with its curriculum and teaching quality receiving wide recognition. These achievements include one national-level first-class undergraduate course, four provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, one provincially recognized model course integrating the development of core values throughout the curriculum, one provincial application-oriented model course, and one provincially recognized teaching team. Faculty members have led multiple research and teaching projects supported by national and provincial funding bodies and have won awards in major teaching competitions, including the National Teaching Innovation Contest. In 2022, the English program was designated a National First-Class Undergraduate Program, and a civil aviation–oriented English teaching project was awarded First Prize in the Sichuan Provincial Undergraduate Teaching Achievement Awards.
