Established in July 2021, the College of Aviation Meteorology is the first and only institution of its kind in China dedicated to aviation meteorology education. It upholds a rigorous academic philosophy, consolidates its foundation through standardized teaching management and a high-quality talent development system, and contributes to the university’s pursuit of excellence. Positioned as a teaching-and-research-oriented college, it adheres to the principle of "building distinctiveness through specialization and empowering the college through technology," guided by the development strategy of "highlighting unique features, driving innovation, and fostering open collaboration." With a clear focus on aviation, the college is committed to cultivating high-caliber professionals.
The college offers a well-structured academic portfolio, including two undergraduate programs—Applied Meteorology (Aviation Meteorology orientation) and Atmospheric Science—along with three master’s programs: Atmospheric Science (academic master’s), Meteorology (professional master’s), and Resources & Environment (professional master’s). It currently enrolls over 1,000 full-time students, including 16 international students from Belt and Road countries, thereby strongly supporting the industry's need for highly qualified aviation meteorology specialists.
The college has more than 50 faculty and staff members, including 2 doctoral supervisors, 16 senior-title holders, and 32 PhD degree holders. Among them are several distinguished experts, such as recipients of the State Council Special Allowance, leading professional under Sichuan Province’s "Tianfu Emei Plan," Sichuan Province Distinguished Experts, and reserve candidates for Sichuan Province Academic and Technical Leaders.
In line with its "quality-first, connotation-driven, and discipline-strengthening" approach to program development, the college aligns talent cultivation with industry demands. Its state-of-the-art facilities include over 6,000 square meters of teaching and research space, featuring specialized platforms such as an Aviation Meteorology Flight Simulation Laboratory, a Weather Analysis Laboratory, and a Meteorological Observation Station. These resources effectively support high-level talent training and promote the high-quality development of civil aviation.
The college houses two provincial/ministerial-level key laboratories and serves as the supporting institution for several national academic bodies, including the Aviation Meteorology Committee of the China Meteorological Service Association. In recent years, it has undertaken more than 40 national and provincial/ministerial research projects and has received multiple scientific research awards at the provincial/ministerial level. These high-level academic achievements have vigorously propelled the development of its disciplinary fields.
Since 2020, students have won over 30 awards at provincial/ministerial level or above in high-profile national competitions, such as the National University Student Meteorology Sci-Tech Knowledge Competition and the National University Student Mathematics Competition. The college has thus established itself as a key contributor to building a world-class flight university with Chinese characteristics.
